using heart shaped templates or fall outs from hand cut stencils
Valentine Stencil to make your own valentines!
To make your valentine card start with a heart shaped template cut from transparency film, a heavier piece of paper, or a pre-cut stencil.
Next, using a semi-dry brush, apply soft color over the edge of the template. (Avoid using too much water.)
(You can also use a damp sponge or dampened paper towel dipped in watercolor too. Each will give you a different look. Experiment and have fun!)
To keep a sharp clean edge on the painted heart shape avoid brushing toward the template so that paint doesn't seep under the edge of the template.
Painting Valentines using a stencil
Finish off the heart by creating the illusion of a ruffle by painting what is "under" it. You can use the same color as shown or use a different color,  Notice that there is a sharp edge where the ruffle ends and then it is softened as you move away from it. You can do this in one stroke by wetting the brush with clear water and putting color only on the inside tip of the brush.
Happy Valentine's Day!
